For items with a lot of stretch, you can often choose your smallest size. Is an item fitted or does it have little stretch? Then choose the larger size. For trousers, your hip measurement is usually the deciding factor, because a waist is easier to alter than hips.
Pants with a high, elasticated waistband are your best choice. They fit snugly at the waist without feeling tight around the hips. Wide-leg and straight-leg styles also drape smoothly over the hips and upper thighs.

Look for wrap styles, adjustable straps, and tops with stretch in the bodice. They provide room without making the rest too loose. With button-up blouses, if you have a larger cup size, it’s often better to choose one size up.
Stretch often loosens a little after being worn a few times. That’s normal. So it’s better to choose a size that fits snugly at first rather than a loose size. Wash at a low temperature and let stretch fabrics air-dry to help them retain their shape for longer.
